Avner Nahmani passed away from pancreatic cancer on 30 October 2008.
In the months prior to Avner’s death, he and his wife Caroline established the Avner Nahmani Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund - an extraordinary legacy for all future sufferers of this lethal cancer. It was Avner’s aim through the Fund to raise awareness and funds that will assist in improving outcomes for patients.
The objective of the fund is to raise $1 million to support dedicated pancreatic cancer research to be carried out by the GI CANCER Institute. Over $512,000 has been raised since October 2008.
Please join us at Avner’s Palm Beach Walk to help us achieve our target.
The event is on Sunday the 18th of October starting at 9:30am. The walk begins and ends at Governor Phillip Park, Palm Beach.
Parking at Palm Beach is pay and display with rangers regularly patrolling.
There will be a shuttle bus running between Avalon and Palm Beach with collections at Barrenjoey High School and Careel Bay Playing Fields.
The local public bus runs along Barrenjoey Rd every 20 minutes with stops at Careel Bay and outside Governor Phillip park.
Pancreatic cancer is the most lethal of all adult cancers with around 2,000 Australians being diagnosed and almost the same number dying of the disease each year. People who get this disease are currently faced with a median survival rate of only 3 to 6 months.
All money raised at this event will be utilised by the GI CANCER Institute to conduct clinical trials into pancreatic cancer.
