Andrew Robert Leslie Stevenson graduated MB BS from Monash University, Melbourne, in 1986 and completed his surgical training at Monash Medical Centre. Post fellowship training in Colorectal surgery was undertaken at Royal Brisbane Hospital in 1996, followed by a further fellowship year at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, in 1997.
Andrew returned to Brisbane in 1998, and commenced practice as a specialist Colorectal surgeon at the Wesley hospital, and later, also at the Holy Spirit Northside hospital. He rejoined the team at Royal Brisbane, initially as a Senior Lecturer in 1998 at the University of Queensland, and then as a Visiting Consultant Surgeon. He is now the Director of Colorectal surgery, as well as Chairman of General Surgery at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.
His main interests are in laparoscopic colorectal surgery, colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease as well as functional disorders. Andrew is a co-director of Colorectal Diagnostics in Brisbane, and performs colonoscopy, endorectal ultrasound, pudendal nerve studies and anorectal manometry. He is also trained in transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEMS) which he regularly performs.
He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and a member of both the Colorectal Surgery Society of Australasia (CSSA) and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS). He is currently on the Training Board in Colorectal Surgery, as well as the Research Committee CSSA.
Andrew has been principal investigator in a number of colorectal and laparoscopic trials, and continues to be involved in research, education and training in these areas.
