Niall Tebbutt undertook his medical degree at Oxford University, graduating in 1989. His initial general medical training was in the UK and South Africa. He moved to Melbourne in 1993 and undertook medical oncology training there, followed by a PhD at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, where he gained skills in molecular biology. He subsequently accepted a clinical research fellow post at the Royal Marsden Hospital, UK where he gained extensive clinical research experience in GI cancer.
He has worked as a consultant medical oncologist at Austin Health and Northern Health for nearly seven years and is the lead clinician for GI cancer research at both institutions.
