Paul was appointed Professor and Head of School, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Western Australia in 2008. Previously, from 2004-2008, he was Sr. Director of Pathology and Diagnostics at Genentech in San Francisco, where he led the company’s program of developing biomarkers to predict clinical benefit in oncology clinical trials. This interest developed while he was Director of Pathology at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne from 2001-2004. He serves on various Committees and Advisory Boards where he is a passionate advocate for molecular and translational pathology.

His areas of interest relate to the development of diagnostic tests to detect drug targets and biomarkers that predict responsiveness and clinical benefit from targeted therapies in oncology.
