Education and Development
In November 1997, the first Colorectal Cancer Trials Symposium was held as a satellite meeting in association with the College of Surgeons.
A second Colorectal Symposium was held in September 1998, in conjunction with the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia (CSSA). This meeting included a review of the draft guidelines for the treatment of colorectal cancer, and involved contribution from two invited international speakers.
An Upper Gastro-Intestinal Symposium was held as a satellite meeting of the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia (COSA) meeting in 1998. This meeting gave the AGITG an opportunity to discuss and promote its existing and proposed trials in gastric and oesophageal cancer. In addition, as a result of Dr Pierce Chow's (Asia Pacific Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cancer Group) presentation of the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the AGITG initiated the development of its own hepatoma protocols.
