Message from the Chairman
The Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group (AGITG) is a not-for-profit organisation that facilitates and co-ordinates clinical trial research in gastro-intestinal cancer (cancer of the oesophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas and bowel) across Australia and New Zealand, and also collaborates with institutions and specialists in Asia, Europe and the USA. Indeed, the AGITG is fast becoming an internationally pre-eminent research organisation, recognised by its peers for exceptional conduct and reporting of important clinical research.
The AGITG encompass a dedicated group of investigators and support staff with a specific interest in treatment and research related to gastro-intestinal cancers. This foundation along with unified support from the National health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Clinical Trials Centre, University of Sydney, allows us to continue to define what the future of medicine will be.
It is my distinct pleasure to be involved with the AGITG and my privilege to be the current Chair of this vibrant organisation. We stand committed to maintain the highest possible standard for the clinical trials we undertake and to improve the quality and length of life in the many patients whom we are honoured to serve.
Professor John Zalcberg MBBS, PhD, FRACP
Chair, Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group
Director, Division of Haematology and Medical Oncology, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
