Oesophageal Cancer | DECO

A randomised phase II trial of weekly docetaxel (Taxotere®) chemoradiotherapy +/- cetuximab (Erbitux®) in the treatment of localised resectable cancer of the oesophagus.

Schema

schema: DECO

Summary

Although oesophageal cancer can be surgically removed, the cancer often comes back. A recent meta-analysis indicates that pre-operative chemoradiotherapy may be more effective than pre-operative chemotherapy, and both are more effective than surgery alone. However, a standard chemoradiotherapy regimen has not been defined. This study aims to identify a potentially active regimen, and will test the activity and toxicity of a pre operative docetaxel-based chemoradiotherapy regimen incorporating cetuximab followed by definitive surgical resection.
